connect2earth

Mother Nature and the environment have been suffering following the era of globalisation and industrialisation. I'm not here to lecture you about all the things that you should avoid and the things that you can do to help the environment as I'm sure all of you know all about it but just too lazy to move your butt.

But what if there's a reward for taking part? From now until October (not too sure about this), there's a collaboration between WWF, International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and Nokia that allows individuals from all over the world to share their points of view, their thoughts and opinions about the environment. While you're at it, you even stand a chance of winning a Nokia phone!!

connect2earth is a global community set up by the collaborators to provide a space for people to share their thoughts about the environment and be a part of a community with a common goal, that is to conserve and save the environment.

You can post up pictures, videos, articles etc to the site and via voting and judging that is conducted every month, a lucky winner is selected. So get your thinking cap, cameras, microphones, video cams or just your yellow writing pad, start thinking and share your thoughts with the world.

Register at connect2earth and BE PART OF SOMETHING BIG!!!

and as i mentioned before, the three countries with the highest number of pledges will share USD 1 million to be channeled to their WWF organisation. the nations with the highest pledges are:

First place (USD 500,000) - Brunei
Second Place (USD 350,000) - Taiwan
Third Place (USD 150,000) - Hong Kong

The countries that generated the most pledges per capita across each region were:
South East Asia - Brunei
North East Asia - Taiwan
Middle East and South Asia - Lebanon
Africa - Botswana

Thank you for anyone that has made a pledge and please continue to take care of Mother Nature...

29th March - Earth Hour

everyone please mark this date on your calendars, the 29th of march. that very day from 8pm to 9pm is the earth hour. i can hear a lot of people asking bout what the heck is earth hour. earth hour is the hour to show a little support to our planet earth by opting to switch off your lights for that hour.

just turn off your lights for one hour to show support and to reduce global warming and climate change. this event was started last year by Sydney but this year, the event have gone global and major participation from 25 cities across the world is being planned and those cities include Chicage, San Francisco, Sydney, Manila, Bangkok, Toronto and many more. As of now, 7,097 businesses and 112,269 people have registered to participate in Earth Hour.

For more details, go to EARTH HOUR to read about this special event.
And while you're there, make sure to register your name kay

Please inform your friends, family and co-workers about this. The more people around the world who switch off their lights for just one hour, the bigger and more powerful message we can deliver. Every single light makes a statement and makes a difference. (extracted from the WWF email i received)
